A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
It is Medvedev's initial title after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court since spring of the previous year.
Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one various competitions.
"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is particularly special," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his past six title deciders, comprising in Halle earlier this year.
His counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on court had led observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.
However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.
Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the final five points to take the lead.
The competitors traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional championship, took control to force a final set.
Moutet defended 4 initial break points in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.
Appropriately, he secured the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
